2016 Let's Do it Again

Atriots will gather again in the Portland Oregon metro area for a weekend of fun and frolic 4th of July weekend

Tentative Schedule:

Friday-Saturday: July 1-2:  folks will start arriving in town, open schedule. If you wish to connect with others to go to the largest Blues Festival west of the Mississippi, sightseeing, shopping at the cannabis stores, tasting beer or wine, let us know via email and we'll get you connected. As those plans become formed, they will be posted here. Saturday night - early arrivals pre-function at the Suburban Hellhole.

Sunday, July 3rd, Noon-5:  Atriots and their guests hit classic Portlandia. BYOB and a potluck item, chips, whatever. Or just show up! Acoustic jam, woodshed the July 4th song list (to be posted) for anybody interested but we'll try not to drive the rest of y'all nuts. NOTE: NEW LOCATION, NOT BEING HELD AT SUBURBAN HELLHOLE. This is going to be in Southeast Portland, send email for address.

Monday, July 4th, 1PM: Big birthday and July 4th blowout on a 3 acre small farm and lovely historic site just NE of Hillsboro, Oregon.

Live bands plus open jams. There will be a lot of kids, extended family and a Republican or two. :-) Ping pong, croquet, basketball, frisbee, badminton, volleyball. Secluded smoking area. Celebrating three birthdays - Danny Guam (we'll never tell) and Mr. Pdx (60).  Since this is out in a rural area, "legal" fireworks are okay, good idea to stay away from aerials.

There is a MAX light rail station nearby and we can shuttle people or folks can take a cab from the train station. There are several nearby hotels, all off Highway 26, Beaverton-Hillsboro. The countryside is just lovely, and there are several nearby wineries and restaurants to enjoy in the morning. If you are staying near Washington Square, you can take MAX to Beaverton Transit Center then a bus to W.S.

Come to Portlandia June 29!

Time for the 4th EschaConPDX! Join us on Saturday, June 29th at my suburban hellhole in Southwest Portland. The event will start at 2:00 pm but feel free to come earlier if you are in town! Email me for the address and further details: nwatriot@gmail.com.

I will provide meat/veggie main course and ask that everyone bring some sort of side dish if possible. If you want to jam, please bring your axe. I'll have extra guitars, bass, keyboards and banjo available for you to borrow. For those of you that don't want to have to listen to us woodshopping - there is plenty of space to escape to chat with non-jamming attendees.

Some people will be coming in to town early, so if you want to get together on Thursday or Friday for a trip to the coast or whatever, contact me. We'll definitely have a Pre-Function on Friday night.

Danny Guam has designed another fantastic SIFUABS tee shirt, donations accepted to help cover that cost. When the shirt is ready, I'll put up a post so that you can order one even if you cannot attend.

Hope to see you!

Portland 2012

Time for another gathering of Atriots in Portland, Orygun - June 29, 30 and July 1st.

Tentative schedule - very flexible, open to ideas!

Friday evening, June 29: A Very Portlandia Evening

Explore inner Southeast Portland food carts and brew pubs then go check out some live music and giggle at hipsters and ourselves.

Saturday, June 30: BBQ & Jam at the Suburban Hellhole

Morning/early afternoon: on your own, or get together for excursions (Erin is happy to help organize). Ideas include visiting the Hillsboro or one of dozens of Farmer's Markets, go on the Trail-Tram-Trolley-Train tour, take a shorter hike in Forest Park, rent bikes and enjoy the trails through downtown Portland on both sides of the river, shop in one of the funky neighborhoods such as Hawthorne, Alameda, downtown or Northwest Portland.

Late afternoon/evening: The Main Party: BBQ and Jam session at my suburban hellhole, good access to mass transit. We'll barbeque, have a blues/acoustic jam session, watch bluesman demonstrate the atlatl, and enjoy each other's company. You can camp out overnight in the backyard if you wish.

Sunday, July 1: Wine country and/or Oregon Coast Outing

Meet up for breakfast, then visit wineries in Washington County on our way to the Oregon Coast. Take a loop through Sherwood, Newberg and McMinnville to checkout wineries then head through the Coast Range and on to Lincoln City. Stop and walk on the beach, shop in the little towns up the coast ending at Seaside, then head back to the metro area.

QL and Mr. QL are coming out from the East Coast - hope you can come too! It never rains in August (famous last words), should be a nice one. Biking Portland

When I was visiting Ericka a couple months ago we rented bikes and rode downtown and around the waterfront. It was quite lovely and a lot of fun, so ErinPDX asked me to do a post on riding in Portland.

The city is extremely bike friendly. There are dedicated lanes and new "green boxes" in much of the heart of the city and paths all over the place. If you want to explore by bicycle, first grab a map that shows all the different types of roads and even indicates hills and such at the Office of Transportation. Oregon Online also has information on 5 suggested rides, from easy to difficult and covering a variety of terrain.

If you don't have an opportunity to bring your own ride, Waterfront Bicycles rents bikes, including tandems! There are also several other establishments scattered about the city that are indicated on the map linked above.

We think it would be awesome if we could get a gang together to go for an EschaConNW Ride. Maybe a midnight ride, or just a tour of The Pearl, or whatever. Anybody game?
